I'm doing something useful... I'm buying a D16Y8 head, I'm going to port and polish it myself, installing omni power valves, and a cometic head gasket. Later I'll dyno tune my ride and post some results. I'm keeping my current d16y8 head, just to have a car to drive while I'm porting the d16y8 head I'm buying, also it's insurrance incase the head I buy is warped and needs to milled.

ugh. valves are not nearly as important as springs and retainers. think about it, if u drop a valve in a zero tolerance motor, i dotn give a fuck what there made of, its gonna bend. have the stock valves relapped, have a 3 angle valve job anmd put in some dual valve springs and retaines. for the cost of that shit tho, put pistons and rods in the bottom end and get that dinky edelbrock kit and up the boost on that motha

on an other note, putting new valves into a head is pointless unless u have a valve job done.

Are the crower rods lighter and stronger than stock or heavier?

crower rods have a greater tendency to strech then say eagle rods or manley. for the price go with eagle, great rods and affordable. for overall strength, manley, thee beastly and will take all the abuse u can throw at em. crower rods in my opinion are for mild to moderate power say around or under 400.
there alot stronger then stock and probably a bit heavier too. d-series rods are like toothpicks. check tunertoys.com and see if they still sell there brand rods, there made by the same company as SCAT, and there pretty good rods

I don't plan on going higher than 290whp, as I wouldn't be able to keep my ride a daily driver. I thought Eagle are only good for about 240whp, I've been reading that crower is better than Eagle and Pauter is better than both.

No, you're not. You're going to blow $600 + and a weekend of labor on something that may net you 5 hp if you're lucky.

That same time and money spent on better/more turbo parts, or good boost control, or tuning would net you more hp.

You certainly don't need new springs or valves for 290 hp.

Save the labor and money for a manual tranny swap.

I'm not spending $600+...

I'm buying a d16y8 for $100
Die Grinder and bits for $30
Omni Valves for $175
Head Gasket for $70

$375 for even 5whp is decent. I already have my valvetrain and cam upgraded. Also I plan to port match my IM and header.
