Default Cat back system & SMOG Test

Okay. I have 92 Civc Hatch CX. Everything is pretty much stock. I don't think my car is going to pass because of the Catalytic needs to be changed (I can tell by the dark water that falls out from the exhaust pipe). Anyways, I was thinking of seizing the opportunity and getting a full cat back system (probably 2.25in). My plans are to engine swap the car to a JDM B18C1 and then supercharging it with Jackson Racing later. My budget is about $4K. I would like any recommendations. I believe you get what you pay for, so if an item is good but expensive (but worth it), let me know. One last thing, I also want to keep my car street legal (if it matters on the selection).

water comming from your tail pipe is going to either be just condensation or coolant, i'm sure u'd know if it was coolant tho coz it would be a big white nasty smoke.. either way.. that doesn't mean that your cat is bad.

if you have 4k

i'd buy a b18b swap & boost it via turbo..

your not gonna be able to afford a b18c & super charger with 4k.. sry man

We'll this is why I think my cat is bad. I switched my stock muffler with an ebay after market exhaust pipe a few months ago. When it was switched, there were carbon rock or black rocks that came out of the muffler when it was removed, and some shot out when the exhaust pipe was in and they tried flooring the car. BTW, I am not planning on getting everything I mentioned right now, those were just part of my plans so everyone can have some idea what to tell me. But I was really thinking of getting the Cat Back system right now, if I need it.

Wow. . If you are right, I am at complete amazement. Then, why is it called a CAT back system. If you think about it, if someoneone heard it, the name sort of implies it. Because if it didn't include the CAT, shouldn't it be called a Back Cat system. Everything behind the cat, instead of CAT back system, which implies catalytic and back part of the system. We'll at least that was my logic behind the name of it.

It could be confusing like that but if you actually look at a whole "cat-back" system you see that there is no catalytic converster..cause they are expensive as hell.

it's called a cat back because back cat sounds silly. And it's supposed to mean where the catalayic converter ends back. Now would be a good time to get a high flow cat.

Exactly what he said... it's called cat-back because it's the exhaust piping the begins at the end of the cat.

As far as the catalytic converter goes, it should be fine. The catalytic converter actually takes the exhaust gases from the engine and turns them into h20 and co2. It does this by storing oxygen from the exhaust and mixing it with the hc's and co's that come out of your engine. HC's + O2= h20.......CO's + O2= CO2. If you watch other peoples exhaust pipes while their car is idling, you should see some water dripping form the exhaust pipe. As far as getting a cat back exhaust, the won't change anything as far as smog goes. It just helps to even out the exhaust pulses and help your engine exhale better.

As far as the swap goes, i'd go with the boosted b18b, much more power potential over a supercharger. Go with a 2.5 to 3 inch exhaust if you supercharge or turbo. Boosted cars don't need as much back pressure like N/A cars do. hope that helps and makes a lil sense
