Default 2004 Civic EX auto transmission

I just bought a 2004 Civic Ex with automatic transmission. In all other cars that I have owned, when shifting from park to drive, it would always stop at drive and you would have to push in a button to go to the lower gears if it had any. On this car it will go all the way to the lowest gear from park. Do all these cars do that. I always need to check carefully to make sure I am in drive and not drive 1 or 2.

On my dad's Civic (06 auto EX) it is the same way. I think that is just the way they make them now.

To be honest though, I don't know if that is standard or not, I have never owned an auto...

We've got an 04 Ex auto. You can shift all the way down to a lower gear w/o pushing any buttons. Same thing goes with my 96 Ex auto. So you're ok.

OK, I just actually drove my dads car today.

You can go down to 3rd, but any lower and you have to push the button in.
