how much would it cost to swap my 97dx sohc 1.6 105hp engine for a decent vtec... and would it even be worth it? can you just drop ideas on how i could make my car faster. i am buying a performance chip very soon which adds about 50-60hp. and i want an air filter system and exhuast system.. what are some ideas for my 97 honda civic dx coupe. no mods yet. going to mod soon, ideas on engine and styles.

word of advice spell vtec the correct way your gonna get flamed hardcore for that one Edit it quickly!

 

Alright bro, here's the deal. Doing the head swap is a good idea, provided you do all the work yourself and find the head, ecu, and everything you need for a decent price. Its basically the only relatively cheap engine mod that is "bolt-on 20 horsepower" for your motor. and just so you know, their is no such thing as a performance chip that adds 50-60 horsepower. Chips if they do anything at all, just adjust your timing, air/fuel mix, and redline. In the real world, most chips only ever yeild like a max of 4-5 horsepower. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THE CHIP.

If you want your car to be quick, the only way to truly get it is to swap for a B-series motor. You could build up your SOHC with VTEC head, with F/I or whatever, but your looking at a ton of dough to get you to the same place as the B16A or B18C.

If your going for more of a show look, just do the head swap, then add some other goodies like intake and exhaust. maybe some spray (very little bit, unless your built)

One last thing, if your have and Auto tranny DX, just swap the motor now.

well thats what i was told from a good friend of mine that owns a shop that sells all that ****. but neways, ya its a manual, i would never get a ****ty car like dx unless it was a manual. is it possible to just upgrade the origonal non-vtec good, or is it just a waste and cost too much..?
