Default Header information

Hi everyone

I am trying to learn things about my car without having the modifications done on my car. Basically I'm here only to learn.

I was wondering what the use of a header is. Does it increase HP? How much does it cost? How easy or hard is it to do the install myself or what would the labor cost? Is it a good investment? What are the effects on others things like fuel efficiency or engine sounds. How often should i get one/ how fast does it rust? Which companies are good, which should I stay away from?

any information imagineable would be deeply appreciated, thanks in advance

p.s. I have a 98 acura EL

welllll.... a header realy doesnt add that much hp. it depends on the engine though. it might make it a tinsie-ist more of a throaty sound.... but im not an expert on it. my header was not your typicle replacement..... cause my stock header had a catalytic converter on it so i gained more than most.

i felt a good power gain on the low end (but thats cause i lost my cat) and ell my car backfires alot because i have no smog device but you wont probably have as dramatic an affect. i would say exhaust would sound a run a little smoother, plus they look cool. headers are used i would say to complete the exhaust if you had a whole system. but dont quote me. get one, there fun and easy to install.

When buying a header, if you're going to go cheap like DC Sports, you might as well just get an eBay special header because there about 250$ cheaper and will make the same power. Then there's RMF, SMSP, Hytech. Usually custom made 800-1000$, if you're a N/A freak there worth it. There usually custom made to get the most hp out of the specific application.

aftermarket headers usually increases exhaust flow and increase hp over a factory manifold that usually restricts for emissions purposes.
