This was scary!

My steering went out. It had been loose for like 8 months, but it finally went bonkers. I can turn the weel 75% of the way before my front wheels turn at all. This happened as I was pulling into my sisters place so i just parked it.

I found a steering rack (power steering) for 50 bux at a junkyard. How hard is it to put one in yourself or should i get a mechanic?

 

sounds more like tie rods...........but if you wanna do the entire rack it isnt hard at all if you have any mechanical inclination

 

From what i've read tie rods can cause your steering to go out too. There does not seem to be any play in the "toe" of the front wheels - but even when parked i can turn the steering wheel from 12:00 to 6:00 without motion of the front wheels. This works counterclockwise too. Any how to's on replacing these online? Not just this board....
