D16z6 to D16y8 swap
I'm about a week from a d16y8 with 51,000 miles into my 92 Si. Taking my d16z6 out. Got it cheap. EVERYTHING on it. Spoke to another guy I know and he told me this about the swap:
"When you do the engine transfer you will need to swap over your engine mounts and complete engine wiring harness. You should be able to modify the power steering hose to get that to function again. The A/C won't function. You will need to have a specialist fabricate connections which they will probably overcharge you though, so I'd hold off on that for last. Hopefully you are getting the axles too I hope?"
My A/C won't work? Steering hose? WTF? I've yet to hear of such obstacles with this swap. Searched my ass off. Man...I'm finally gonna spend $ on the car. Gonna cost me $500 for the motor and tranny... and $250 plus the motor and tranny that's in it, to put it in. The d16z6 has 209,000 miles and a blown head gasket. Sounds worth it to me.
Lemme know guys, it's getting real. I'm about to apply everything I've learned, and I'm grateful for the curve ball I've been thrown. Any help will be appreciated!

Then he wrote this after I said WTF??:
"Y8 is OBD-2, your car is 92-95 model which were all OBD-1. 96 and newer were OBD-2. 2001 and newer began the OBD-2b. The engine mounts are interchangeable. But are definitely different. You have to swap them out to fit the engine in. Axles are different too. You have to swap the whole wiring harness from your engine onto the Y8 engine for it to work. Your A/C system is r12, from 94 and newer it was 134a. Thats why your system won't work. The piping is different"
His he right?

An engine is an engine. These too engines are almost identical. Forget using any accessories from the Y8 use your existing power steering and AC stuff. It will bolt right on. Unless for some stupid reason you want to have an OBDII computer you don't need to change the wiring, you have all the connectors there that it will need. Your using your same transmission? then you don't need to do anything about axles. The onlything I see that you'll need to change is the mount that attached to the front of the engine pull the one off of your Z6 engine and put it on the Y8. If the Y8 for some reason is from an automatic you'll need to use your Z6 Intake manifold. Automatic Y8's used a 3 wire Idle air control on the Throttle body and don't have the holes on the back of the manifold for the 2 wire setup. Hope this helps.

Yo... sorry to bother you guys with that question that's been DRILLED many-a-times, but when I change my motor from d16z6 to d16y8 in a 92 Si, do I need to get axles from a 96-00??? If anyone can answer that, I'd sure be appreciative.
Thanks guys.
Thanks guys.
