Default Getting ready for a motor swap.....

I am about to put a b16a2 in my Del Sol 94. I was wondering if I needed any motor mounts, or will it just bolt right in? How much should I charge for labor. I found a guy that is willing to do it for 800. Does that sound about right. I plan to have everything for him. Ill post the parts later. Thanks again. If anyone has 5speed pedals all of them. I am willing to pay.

you sir own one of the best cars to swap motors into, that b16 will drop in no problem, so will any other motor pretty much. 800 is fair, if its not a professional doing it make sure you watch what they do, ive heard too many stories of people letting strangers work on their cars only to have shit missing when they get it back, so make sure you trust this individual.

you sir, are a fucktard.

you will need new mounts to do this swap. since the del sol was later offered with a b16a3 from the factory, you could consult your local honda dealer to get OEM mounts, shift linkage, axles, ECU and dizzy from the VTEC model del sol, but that would probably be more expensive than getting nicer, stronger, aftermarket mounts and axles.

hasport is known to be one of the better companies for engine swap motor mounts, but other companies like place racing and HCP also make em.

you are also gonna need a number of other parts like axles, shift linkage, ECU (with an OBD conversion harness if its different than your cars), dizzy etc. depending on what you are getting with the purchase of the motor, and what year it is from. if its a USDM b16a2, then its from a 99-00 civic si, which is OBD2. your car is OBD1. some changes will have to be made there.

as for the labor, 800 would be a good deal if the mechanic knows what he/she is doing. motor swaps are not all that difficult, but they dont just 'drop right in' as mr. fucktard up here seems to think.

good luck and keep us posted.

Yeah, what he said. If it's obd2 you'll probably want to consider a conversion harness. other than those parts he listed the only other thing is wiring up the vtec.

wtf is up your ass. the only reason i thought it would drop right in is because my friend just purchased a del sol about 1.5 months ago for $800 and it had a blown factory b16 in it so he swapped a new one in no problem, in fact it took us roughly 6-8 hours to completely finish the swap. there was no buying new mounts or axels or none of that shit, he just used all his stuff from his factory b16. now if this guy owns the single cam del sol version then thats a totally different thing, i was just speaking from recent swap experience.h:

well, if he's planning on swapping a b16 into his 94 del sol, chances are that he has a sohc engine unless he has a (very rare) 94 VTEC model with high mileage or a blown motor, but one can assume that if he's asking about needing new mounts, that was not the case.

i just hate when people say 'oh, yeah that'll drop right in' when it obviously will not. what if he read your post and started tearing down his engine bay thinking he had all the parts he needed? it's better to think about the situation and do a little bit of thinking before just spouting off about how 'just about any honda motor will drop right in' just because you replaced the long block of a del sol with a factory b16 in 8 hours. me and my buddy did a sohc vtec d series swap in 4hrs in my EF. big deal.

my point is that you shouldn't make posts like yours just because you happened to get lucky in your situation and just had to replace a longblock in a vtec del sol. most people that are doing swaps in sols are gonna be doing b series swaps, and have d series engines from the factory.

800 sounds a little steep to me, i only paid 450 for mine. it was done by a professional. i would look around a little more before i paid that.

All you guys thank you very much for your answers. I will start looking into the conversion harness, and the motor mounts, shift linkage, and etc. If I have a hard time finding these parts Ill ask you guys. lolz. Thank you so much. The one part i am having a hard time to find is the 3 pedals. If you know of anyone that is willing to sell these pedals. PM me. or direct me to the market store, cuz I can't find any!! again thanks so much

before you go off buying one online go to your local tuner shop and ask if they can get you one. i was going to get that same one off HMO, but when i went to the shop to ask how much it would be to have it put in he got me the same exact one w/ lsd, and all the correct parts to bolt it up for $2500. so i say check w/ a shop first.
