Default facts about swap

Have a 1998 honda civic EX w/ v-tec engine. Rod blew through the block, so am in need of an engine or can I swap a non-v-tec in the car? some people say that it has to be a v-tec or no good. Anyone have a real idea as to what iis the true proceedure. Much thanks

You can put whatever motor in your car you prefer. Just some wiring and possibly motor mount changes.

another y8 isnt going to be much more $ than a y7 or a y5...and is probably better since you wouldnt have to change any connections (ie- iacv wires)

no you wouldnt you would just need to put in a non vtec ecu. just leave the non used plugs unplugged. the harnesses aside from those wires are almost identical. theres only slight changes in length between the models (not counting the differnt primary o2 sensor clip on an hx)

you wouldnt have to rewire your car but you couldnt use your original wiring harness. if you want to swap in a non vtec engine then the only remotely smart thing to do would be b18a/b and boost.
