Default 16Y8 intake on D16z6?

A friend of mine told me that you can increase power by taking the intake manifold off of a d16y8 and putting on a d16z6. Straight bolt up? Anything to consider? What about getting it ported and polished. I heard that the rough interior of the intake manifold helps the air and fuel to mix.

yea it bolts right up, and its real nice little mod to do. I dont think it would be worth porting and polishing though, if you spend that much your better off spending the 250-300 for a skunk 2

The skunk2 would have the same "effect" as the y8 PLUS?

yea the skunk 2 does the same thing as the y8 but is the aftermarket option instead of the junkyard option. Youll also get a bigger difference from the skunk 2

Hmm... If the difference between the two is slim, it might be better on the pocket to go with the y8 head from a yard or someone selling one. How much of a HP gain do you really get?

On my friends Del Sol Si with nothing but intake, header, exhaust, and skunk 2 intake manifold he dynoed 156 whp. By comparison, my brothers old d16z6 with intake header and exhaust dynoed for 113 whp. Thats a 43 hp difference which is nothing to shake a stick at. With the Y8 your not gonna get numbers like that, you might see 10 to 15hp but your right that the y8 wont hurt the wallet as much.

Hey I have a D16Y8 Intake Manifold I'd be willing to sell, I'm using a skunk2 IM now, so this part is just sitting in my garage. I live in the Los Angeles area, so if you interested PM me.

So the ECU then adjusts the intake to take advantage of the increased intake?
