Default smells stinky...

the other day family and i drove my civic to SF up towards Lombard Street. needless 2 say, heavy traffic cuz of tourist.. and constant pull of ebrake and clutch engagement ended up smoking coming from the bottom of the car.

i think my clutch is fried cuz it smells stinky, even after we came home. everything engages just fine.. no slip or anything.. just the occassional stink here and there; especially in the garage.

car has 52K miles on there.. so u think i need to replace the clutch? or is the stink coming from elsewhere?

Why are you pulling the ebrake? Mad drift skills?

brake and clutch smell the same. the clutch smell will "linger" more then the brake smell. if your clutch is fried you will know by the car not moving when clutch is out. back in the day i thought i was cool driving in the winter. i hit a patch of ice and decided to see how fast and high my speddo will go. 1st gear spinning, 2nd gear spinning, 3rd gear spinning, 4th and then fifth. speedo was pegged at about 140ish and i was only going about 10-15mph. a dry patch finally came and the enigne still roaring like i was spinning the tires. the car reaked for a week even with driving it easy. my clutch still worked fine but the smell was still there and strong in odor.

san fran has some mad hilly roads, most of them pretty steap, so he was probably engaging it to keep from rolling backwards.

my guess says he just overworked the clutch. does it smell like burned waffles?
