S20 5th gear Over drive? Been done?
I'm drivin' on the freeway in L.A. and thought if it was possible to change 5th gear so that if I'm doin' 85mph, I'd be at like 2 grand or something low to get SICK gas milage. Just a thought. I've heard in passing that they do it with 88 CRX tanny's. Stupid low RPM while flyin' on the freeway. L.A. is so crowded ANYWAY, I thought that when the 405 or the 10 WAS empty, might as well take advantage. Anyone done it before? What's it like?

im not sure what 5th gear you can put in there.. but iv swapped 5th gears in my older '88 integra w/ 5th gear from an accord for exactly that reason.. just be careful that your car has a little something extra so that it has the power to actually hold 60mph at 2k rpm, otherwise you will have to give it more gas and you will actually be losing mpg.

depending on what trans you have now, just slide on the 5th from the gas saver model, along with synchros for that particular 5th
(ie - use the 5th from a dx model)
You have to use hydro gears unless youre currently cable driven (which crx's are)
I have an LS 5th gear in my gsr transmission

I believe the trans in the car is an S20. The car is 92 Si. D16z6. Doin' a swap for another D16 and figured while the motor is out, put the stage 2 clutch in, and MAYBE change that gear. Since it's a D series motor, would I need a D series tans? The dx 5 speed 5th gear fits in the trans that's in there now? I wouldn't be doin' it myself, but would like to know SOMETHING before having it done.
