Steering knocking vibration, picture!

When I replaced the torn-out driver side steering rack boot, I saw something like black liquid wetness coming out. It was oozing out a little but not dripping. The power steering fluid level wasn't affected. Where is that from? What's further inside that boot? Why was that boot torn to begin with?
I also went ahead and replaced the inner and outer tie rod. I made sure I greased it all up.

A friend in Orlando called me. He said his Nissan Quest has the same problem. So he put the van in the ramp. Got his son to turn the steering wheel left and right while he looked up from underneath. He found out that the steering rack bushing got thinner (he said shrunk) and can see the rack assembly actually sliding left and right like half an inch almost. He replaced the bushings and all bad symptoms disappeared.
I will check mine later. I hope it's a simple fix like his.
