Default How difficult is it to install...................

an aftermarket keyless entry system in a 96 Civic EX? My gf's brother wants me to install one on his Civic. I can't imagine it would be too difficult to do but I thought I'd look into it before I take it on.

I'll be installing a head unit and replacing his front speakers in a few weeks so I'd like to get it done at the same time. Is there anything he'd need to buy besides the keyless entry kit for installation, ie harness or anything?

Hmm, seems to me he would need to buy a harness then. It's an aftermarket keyless entry, not oem, so it wouldn't have the plugs to connect to the existing green plugs, right?

If it is aftermarket it won't have harnesses that utilize the stock wiring. You will have to find the correct wire for each function and then splice the wire with what they give you.

I would start by looking for some sort of wiring diagram for that car so you know which wires are which.

I installed my alarm w/ keyless over the winter. I highly suggest helms electrical wiring diagrams or you find a schematic that has exactly what you need.
In no way would I call the install a walk in the park...it was a pain in the ass, but I did it and it works. I would not be doing someone elses car for free

isn't there a harness that can be bought to make the install plug and play, like for stereo's?

If it were an alarm, I wouldn't do it for free either, but it's just keyless entry, I can't imagine it being too difficult, especially since the shop only wants $30 for install.
