Default Speedometer needle sticks, Help!

Speedometer needle sticks, Help!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My car, with all of it's 424,000 miles, has a sticky speedometer. It sticks on Zero and then sometimes it will flip over and stick at 100mph. I have to smack the dash with my fist and it will usually flip to the current speed. I have the most luck doing this with the fewest smacks of the dash when I'm going about 40mph. (sounds stupid but there you go). I know it just about can't be the speed sensor on the trans because of what I just described (so please don't tell me that I have a speedsensor problem).

Question... Is there anyway to lube the needle shaft or anything like that, or what do I do?

It may just be a loose connection to the back of the cluster or inside, or maybe a worn out speedo. It would suck to have to replace it with that many miles (do over)!

Only 321,000 miles on mine (speedo shows 244,000- I had to swap mine out for the same reason).

The odometer and everything else works. I do want to save the mileage record and keep this unit.
