Default Thumping noise from passenger side front.

Well, about 3 weeks ago I had work done to my car and my mechanic mentioned that I have a passenger side CV boot that is about to tear. I just ignored him and decided that once it tore I would replace it with a whole new axle. Today as I was completely stopped an turned the steering wheelm, I felt a hard thumping sound as if I ran over something from my passenger side wheel area. There's no noise as I'm in motion and it only thumped when I cranked the steering wheel all the way to the right. Could this be the axle or is it something else. I've done a search and it seems like a bad axle will make more of a click noise when in motion. any help is appreciated! Thanks guys.

Have you checked anything out yet?

Balljoints upper and lower
Tie Rods

I had a clunk when turning the wheel at stand still and going into some driveways with a lip. It turned out to be the upper ball joint, it didn't take much play to make the noise.

I get this exact clunk at the exact moments. How did you diagnose it to be the the upper balljoint? What is the test?

Reach over the tire (if not lowered too much) and try to wiggle the upper arm up and down. There was enough slop in my joint to make a definite knock when I did this. I also grabbed the knuckle and shook that back and forth.
Took me months to track this down, I replaced with BMA upper arms, at half the cost, but one side only lasted a few months. I ended up putting a used one I had on.

Ignoring a CV boot tear, could result in a much worst case scenario such as a broken axle or any other problems, such as the ones stated above.

if you just lowered your car recently, it could be that the spring isn't seated properly in the retaining cups... so when you turn your wheel it can cause the noise..

I can move the steering knuckle above the car on my right front side just above the tire while on the ground. Yep, needs a new upper control arm with the new ball joint. I wish the ball joint in these things was removable.
