How hard is it to paint Carbon Fiber? Or is it paintable at all once the clear coat is on?

So you can sand off the clear coat on carbon fiber w/o damaging the fiber?

yes u do.. how the hell do u expect anything to stick!!!
wet sand it with 600 till to get a nice paintable surface.. paint & re-clear.. good to go.
* be sure not to sand down so far that u go through the gel coat & start pealing up the fibers!

You are going to want to sand it a little. Just dont' get carried away. Use a fine grit sandpaper and go slow so you can get it even.
If you want it to be really good, then you might consider taking it to a body shop. One that is willing to do the job that is.

If you are going to sand it sand it with 600, like what Running said
