Default burning oil?

I've always heard from the local honda guys that when vtec kicks in it will burn a sustantial amount of oil. When i kick vtec in a puff of smoke comes out of the exhaust. And it took me a couple of days to figure out why my vtec wasn't working(not enough oil) that was after i took apart the selanoid(cant spell) and check all wiring. NEWayz does anybody here share that same characteristic

well if you don't have enough oil VTEC won't kick in, it is as simple as that

Does your oil pressure light come on? Are you throwing any CEL's?

You might be burning oil. Which motor do you have and how old is it. Check your oil levels daily and see how much is burning. If you are losing oil, do a compression test to find out exactly what is causing you to burn oil. (piston rings, valves, etc.)

Get a compression test and leakdown done. It'll tell you exactly what is wrong. Most likely your valve seals or piston rings are bad. Or it can be as simple as a PCV valve being clogged.

same problem as me spent 2300 just repairing my engine and it still needs a ring job to stop the smoke and oil burning check your pvc valves, mine where screwed fixed them and its not as bad. but your best bet is a ring job.
