LS-Vtec Questions for the pro's...
Alright, I'm going to lay these questions for anyone whom knows about LS-vtec motors. My objection here to to build an LS-vtec that pulls hard, fast, and "ABOVE ALL I WANT IT TO BE RELIABLE." I am looking to put this motor in a 93 coupe ex.
My first question is "Can an LS-Vtec be realiable where you can build it for the long run?"
I am using a B16 head, "What type of cams should I use for realiability?"
Should I use a B18a block or B18B?
What type of pistons should I use for "reliability?"
I was told that LS-Vtec tends to break down frequently, "what is the proper way to do this motor for reliability???"
Which transmission should I use? B16a, b18a, b16b, b18c, ???
Should I stick to the stock LS BLOCK? Should I change the pistons? RODS? CRANK?
Thanks to whomever replies!

If the LS is built right it will last. As Shmoo said they're always breaking because people think that the bottom end can handle the 8,200 rev limit of the b16 head.
As for cam's it depends on what you want to do with the motor.
The 18a and 18b are very simillar, I don't know if it would really make a difference.
The proper way to build it is with quallity parts, an well known and good builder, and don't be a dumbass with it.
For the transmission you could use the GSR tranny or the b16 tranny. I guess those would be most ideal.
If I was putting the effort into an LS/VTEC I would deffinetly beef up the bottom end.

Put a girdle on it, balance the bottom assembly, and put some ARP rod bolts in and it will be ready for a 8200 rpm redline.
You will need to the Golden Eagle LS/VTEC conversion kit for a proper conversion. Do all that and it should be as reliable as any other vtec motor.
And also mate it with the shortest geared tranny you can find.
