Grinding sound coming from spark plug area

ummm, can you be a lil more specific? it could be a million things really. plugs could be too long, & hitting your pistons. could be bent valves, broken retainers? did anything lead up to the grinding? (i.e. bad street race, loud pop, crack of any kind?)
