engine temp problem...

Default engine temp problem...

when i first start the car and let the car warm up the engine temp gauge goes up slowly like normal... but when i start driving the temp gauge goes down back to C... as i keep going the temp gauge goes back up to normal usualy alil bit below half way.... the temp gauge seems to keep dropping and rising back up.. also i noticed when i go down hill the temp guage goes down to C.. so yeah idk if it could be my thermostat or just a wiring problemm .. ne one had dis happen to them or know wat the problem is.. plz help..

if there was a problem with the theromstat would the CEL come on..

Sounds like the thermostat opening and closing. Sitting and idling engine will be hotter. Moving cools the engine. going downhill is a lighter load on engine less heat and cooler.

no, my thermostat was messed up and a CEL never came on

CEL? maybe I am too green to be on here... I would consider replacing the thermo as well. You can check the mechanical workings of your temp gauge by pulling off the lead that connects to the temperature sender (located on the thermostat housing) and ground it. If you ground the lead the needel will move all the way up to H, have someone sit in the car and check it out.
