Default aem intake? should i cut it in 2

i have a 98 ex with an aem cold air not the v one and its all one peice, my buddy gave me an air bypass valve because in key west florida the roads are shitty and rain just pops up out of no where and floods the street.. anyways my question is should i cut my one peice intake into two so i can install the bypass? have you heard of anyone doing that by buddy just hydro lock a 5000$ engine so i dont want to do the same. And if i do that will my intake still be a cold air intake being that it will kinda have a filter in the engine bay? and will i still get the same power out of it?

You can cut it, or you can install the bypass filter where the intake joins the intake manifold. You shouldn't cause any changes to the behaviour of the intake system as a whole, as the valve only opens when the end is blocked or the filter is submerged in water. My friend installed one his is Si with a V2 intake and it works fine.
