if you bought your chip from ebay you got ripped off so just throw it away. and yes you will do damage to your motor eventually. the honda engineers set the rev limiter for your d16z6 to be where it is for a reason so dont mess with it unless you have some serious work done that it would benefit from the higher RPM. your motor practically loses all power at the highest RPM before the rev limiter anyway so you wont get any signs of a performance gain.

a chip isnt going to make it so you dont break anything in the engine.. actually, it will either do nothing or make it worse.

most of them just pump more fuel or air into the engine and drown it and you lose power, unless you have extensive mods and NEED a more agressive fuel curve.. in which case id recomend modding your ECU and tuning it yourself.

the ones that just remove or raise the rev limiter.. well if you dont got any mods (spcifically a hot cam, in which case you would also need some new valves/springs) then your not going to be making any power past the stock redline anyways so its pointless.. not to mention you will just throw a rod or over heat or screw up your valves or jump timing..

chips or modifying the ecu (much better than chipping) should only be done after youv got some mods done (and header, intake, cat-back doesnt count.. im talkin about cams, valves/springs, forged pistons, pnp, b+s, injectors, turbo, etc)

if you bought an ebay chip, you got scammed.. they are just $0.85 resistors that you can get at radio shack and they just make your ECU think that the car is under load, so it dumps more air/fuel in.. which makes you make LESS power and LESS gas mileage.

your engine has no control over how much air goes in FYI. Only your foot does that.

Also why would you want to rev that high with a stock D16. It's not going to make any power, it's just going to blow up. I don't even think you'd want to rev a built D16 that high, hell why would you build a D16 in the first place?

Anything over stock redline with a stock crank in a D16Z6 is bad news.... If you want cheap upgrades, get an intake, and complete exhaust system, there is very little (un-taped) HP in these motors, but if you want to get all the motor has to offer and dont have much $, Intake, and complete exhaust system is your best bet. Total HP gain -maybe 8-12hp...

its not the crank u have to worry about. its the valvetrain being able to keep up along with the oil pump. worst scenario would be your valve springs wouldnt be able to keep up and your pistons would start wackin g the valves. or the oil pump doesnt do its job very well, and your motor gets fried, or the piece of crap ebay chip u bought has a flaw and as soon as u start reving high and the lil mexican that made that chip whom forgot to add more fuel at WOT at high rpms forces ur piston to melt inside the cylinder. ditch the chip. build ur head. take ur shit to a tuner

^ Agreed

if u wanna be able to rev that high safley:
- Upgrade entire valve train
- upgrade oil pump (safty)
- have someone tune it properly
