dunno about the h23. i know there were two h22s, 135 hp and 190 hp vtec. both are dohc i believe. there was also a 2.4L (h24 i assume), which made 160 hp. h22 are lovely engines, w/ stout power. tough lil motors, so i'm sure yours is the same.

I have a 1992 Prelude Si that has the H23 in it.
160/156 HP/TQ. The transmission isn't THAT bad. Sure it doesn't rev to 8500, but it stays up there in the RPM's on shifts. I can tell you that 80 MPH is exactly 4000 RPM's in 5th. Haven't hit the rev limiter at 7100 and the "redline" is 6500. Don't feel much power after 6500 though.
It's lots of fun, and has great low end power. Lots more fun than the 95 Civic EX i had
I'd probably do an H22 though unless you already have a good lead/price on the H23.
oh, and i'm getting an average of 27 MPG with decently aggressive driving.
