Default Ecu codes.....

So why the hell would i get a code 17 vehicle speed sensor AND a code 41 primary O2 sensor heater code at the exact same time? Mind you I just replaced my vss about less than 6 months ago and the O2 sensor is new over the last year or two!

I am so frustrated. I am taking the head off to go to the machine shop to get fixed because of all my oil consumption (smoke) now that the block is done, and it cant be that. The compression tests came back perfect, so it must be the head. Now 1 1/2 quarts of oil on a 220mile trip on the highway could explain a now bad O2 sensor, but the vss at the same time?!

Have you checked any wiring diagram for the engine harness? Maybe the O2 sensor and the vss have something in common.. like a gound wire or something. I do agree with you it´s strange to have both DTC's at the same time.

Good luck

O2 sensors are probably the most replaced part without going bad. O2 sensors seldom fail, but there are MANY situations where the O2 sensor error code will come up and there's nothing wrong with it. I had a similar problem in an old Buick not too long ago. Error code said it wasn't even getting a signal from the O2 sensor (which was not true), but the problem was related to the EGR valve. Start chipping away at what might cause a code 17 and ignore the O2 sensor for now. Don't waste your money until you've eliminated all other possibilities.

I got a Bosch O2 sensor, they are much cheaper, I got mine for 65.00 at a local parts store, you have to splice the wires to the stock plug, but its not hard.

Mine went bad because I droped a wrench on it... Oops..

Thats ok, I will use factory. So why do you think my VSS would go bad after a brand new replacement from honda in 7 months?

... Is that a new or used denso, and does it come with a 3 year warranty?

new - denso does not specify a warranty, but I have read instances where sensors 5yrs old, which died premature on use, were replaced w/o question.
If denso is good enough for honda to begin with, why put anything else in?
I have used bosch sensors before, and each one died/threw random-ass cel's in less than 1000miles. Took it in, got a new one for free, sure...another free pos sensor.
