Default Need A New Engine !!!! Plz Help!!

Hey Guys,
Sadly, over the weekend i somehow managed to kill my engine.
1997 Honda Civic EX Coupe 1.6L SOHC V-TEC
My mechanic (a trust-worthy one) tells me that i basically drove it to death, and that i need a new engine. Now, i basically have to starve and work 24/7 to get money for this, but ..........i would love to get my hands on a DOHC engine, cuz after all, this does seem to be the perfect time for an engine swap.

But based on your experiences, i want to know if this is going to cost significantly more than just finding another SOHC. And if it is just really worth it, whatever the cost difference may be.

So anything that you guys can tell me would be greatly appretiated.
if u know of any good places to find good engines or anything ?

Thanks,
Nick Stone

Well first off...what ever you do...dont let your mechanic do the swap for the dohc or the sohc.....cause he will rape your ass!!!! Just because he has to make money!! But you can find a b18 for around 800 complete.....well u can around here anyways. With the mounts and a few misc parts u should be good to go!!!

You can get a direct replacement JDM SOHC ZC for 500.00 or the DOHC for 200 more. I don't know if they will bolt in, but they will pass emisions if you have them.

Well, the shop i go to for parts (not my mechanic) quoted me a full swap with a JDM D15 VTEC engine for $900, which isn't bad for this area (Miami). My other option was going with a DOHC, however they told me that my car would then have to be converted to manual transmission, which would cost me a grand total of close to $4000.

So i decided to go with the JDM D15 SOHC VTEC motor, which only has 35,000 miles on it. So being JDM, it should give me a lil bit of a power increase. The guys at the shop havedone 23 of these swaps before, and tell me that many guys have been able to turbo them with no problem, being that since they are JDM, they are much higher quality.
