New Vehicle
I know this is a Honda/Acura forum, and since I'm a Honda owner, I think I have a right to offend you all by saying I might be buying a Datsun 280ZX. Keep in mind it's only because I need a new car badly and this Datsun is in super-pristine condition. I've got a beaten '94 Civic EX Coupe with 175k on it and the Datsun is immaculate with 121k...I'm not sure if it's turbo though. Anyone got any advice for me. I'm selling the Civic for $3,400 and the Datsun is $3,200.
im going off non turbo here.
manuals have a problem with 5th gear.
there is a big deal with oil viscousity.
autos have a slip issue.also a torque converter/flywheel issue.
a steering pull is possibly rack friction (bad name)
cold weather starting (rub your belly 3 times and pat your car.

Okay...what's the problem with the oil and 5th gear...it's a manual. BTW like I said...I don't know if it matters, but it's a collector owned vehicle...it was supposedly taken care of perfectly.
the oil vis (according to tsb )will obviously shorten the ring life, these motors have very touch and go rings, it does not take much to blow a na ring (y they didnt use the same as turbo). and what i read about 5th gear bushings. apparently its a problem to make a installation for them. so i see it poping out of 5th crusing.
Okay...well considering all I know how to do is change the oil and sparkplugs and maybe a few more tidbits...am I going to be able to afford this car? I'm on a reasonably tight budget...and I live in a small town, in which most people can't say Mitsubishi. I just want to know if this is a reasonable investment for a car-loving 17 year old that works everyday at Kroger.
