Yea, but if he put in a gallon there should be no problem. If you did run it bone dry and die to many times I'd say your fuel pump over heated. But if you can't get it started with starting fluid... that's not good. Cause it should at least crank over for half a second.

I think your coil and or ignitor went bad during his "test" I had something similar happen to me and it could be that these parts were on thier way out or his unorthodox testing caused a failure, In all my years of working on cars, Ive never heard of such a "technique"

You can not push start or roll start a car that has ignition problems, that only works if a dead battery is the problem.

You can start a car by popping the clutch if your starter is dead as well.

And if you were already almost empty with you tank, and only added a gallon, i have had problems where my car wouldn't start with only that much in it. Is the car on a flat surface?

Yeah, its on a flat surface, Today I tried the screwdriver in the plug wire next to a bolt and tried starting it, I got no sparks that I could see. So i took the dist. cap off and tried to get the rotor off, I unscrewed the rotor and pulled gently and it came off with little effort. Then I realized that the base of the rotor was still on the distributer peg. It was broke in two. So I took the rotor off my 4dr and tried to start it but still no spark. Im pretty sure the coil is out and the rotor is just coincedence as usual.
