HELP !! can a d16z6 tranny fit a d16y8 ?

hi i have a 99 civic and the tranny died, does anyone know what you have to do to get a d16z6 95 auto tranny to fit a d16y8 auto engine because my mechanic thinks there no way it can work, is he right ??

should be straight bolt on...Id be very surprised if it wasnt
