Default Odd noise! NEED HELP!

Ok this isn't the metallic rattling noise that everyone knows about. When my car is cold it makes that metallic rattling noise A LOT of people have that. This isn't what I'm referring to. This is a bit more odd. This sound SPECIFICALLY at about 2000 RPM for some strange reason. My '93 sol is making an odd metallic grinding/scraping noise at 2000 RPM's. I rev it up to there and it grinds/scrapes then when I let off the gas it does the same thing going back down. I thought that it may be a cracked pressure plate but because the sound came when I was only in gear I thought. But when I reved it in neutral past 2000 and then let off it did the same thing (only a little fainter it seemed). (Rev...2000....grind/scrap...stops after above 2000...then let off gas......back to 2000 RPM...grind/scrape...stop after it's off 2000.) Any thoughts on what this noise could be at all? It's irritating the heck outta me. And the odd this is, it only happens at about 2000 RPM.

Also, can the valves make this kinda noise? I hope not. It's a metallic grind/scrape noise. Sorta Blowoff valve like but not really.

Thanks for the help. I really need it.

Sounds like the exhuast heat sheilds... Drive it up on ramps and have a friend rev it for you and just check around until you locate where it's coming from. Get under the car, all over, just move around until you find it.

Why would it happen only at 2000 RPM though. But that's what I thought it was along w/ some other stuff.

Everything has a resonant frequency. The vibration of the engine at 2000 rpms is just when the heat sheilds resonate...

Bakeoff's prob. right about the heat shields; I've read
of at least two "sucess stories" about "noises being solved"
by tightening the heat-shields on the cat., at least.

thanks a lot. I'll definately look into that. Everyone seems to think it's the exhaust in some way or another. SO I have a feeling that's what I better look at

this is gonna sound nutty as hell, but I forgot to mention another source of vibration in my car. The little adjuster for the tension on the ebrake always seems to vibrate slightly when I down shift hard. Just a nice light buzz...
