the scatter sheild is more for covering the bulb, I think. I'm sure the exposed HID bulb is gonna be pretty f'in bright.

try them with the stock halogens first. they still put out a bit more light than our lights (with exception of the angle, I loved my light output with the ctrs)

the larger reflector peice is designed differently, probably to compensate for no sheild. Its more jagged (or was on the 96-98's, I'd imagine the 99-00s are similar)

the scatter sheild is suppose to bounce the light up reflecting off the headlight housing which projects it down to the road.

so why don't other market lights have them?

and more importantly, do you think HID bulbs are even a good idea in jdm lights?

I'm still against the idea. But I'm against those damn oversea's lights to begin with. That beam pattern is not good for our roads.

I am not going to be using HID's I have decided against them.

Why do you have CTR's if you are against oversea's lights? Why is the beam pattern not good for our roads?

Aftermarket lights don't care about DOT/SAE standards. They are out to make $$$

I like HID's in japanese spec lights. Japanese spec lights tend to lay an even blanket of light on the road rather than 2 hotspots. As long as you get the scatter shield...it'll work fine and better IMO.

boils down to the manufacture. you can't just brand all companys as poor quality.

personally, I think he should have just stuck with OEM lights since they're not that bad on 99-00s, but the ctr's arn't bad, and like he said, he's no going HID. Halogens are the lesser of the two evils.

I still don't know about HIDs. I liked the idea at first, but the more I looked into getting them, the more its detered me.

I *had* ctr's.

cars that drive on the opposite side of the road are designed to work on that side. The mirrors are opposite, for instance, so on jdm mirrors, the pass side is a normal flat mirror while the drivers side is convex (if you were to put them on our cars).

jdm/edm/whatever lights shine to the left if you're sitting in the car. That is because the road signs and whatnot are on the left side of the road, since thats where they're driving.

simply put: our's shine like /_/_/ while theirs shine like \_\_\

its not horrible, but it does effect things. I noticed I lit up reflectors alot more, be it on the cars I was behind in traffic, or on the lane reflectors on the opposite side of the highway at night (they reflect red). Every now and then, I'd get highbeamed, but not that much. if I was behind someone too close, the light would be going right into their cabin. it'd piss people off sometimes, so I got into the habit of stopping 10ft from the car in front of me. (and my lights were angled down as far as they'd go). But that came in handy in the fast lane on the highway.

but asiandoood is totally right about the blanket of light. I felt the ctrs did a better job of lighting the road than my oem lights (which do as well as the aftermarket lights I have right now).

I could not find any cheap OEM lights. Why should I have stuck with OEM lights?

Why don't you have CTR's anymore?

Am I going to have to angle mine?

I am worried about the light being too scattered.

You should have told me this stuff before I bought them I might have bought the SiR's, those still have the scatter shield and they are cheaper.
