Default best way to take apart tails??

I tried taking apart my stick tails to clear out my turn signals, but when I tried to put them back together, the lens was warped because I left them in the oven too long. I want to take apart my Altezzas so I can sand sown the chrome and paint it dark charcoal grey, but I don't want the same thing to happen to the lens, so what is the best way to melt the silicone seal without running the risk of damaging the lens? pls help!

200 degrees is generally enough to soften silly con and not melt the plastic. thats for 20 mins or less. generally your lights are going to experience temp extremes from -80 -> +175 degrees in the real world, so i wouldnt think 200 should melt them...

on my stock tails, I first tried 250 degrees, and that didn't even touch the silicone, so I upped it to 350 and that melted them. I thinkI put them in for 10 mins. so.....maybe less temp. and more time?

Try taking the safer route and do it manually with a heat gun (blowdryer). That's what I did for my first couple times at the DIY light clearing stuff and it worked, but it's slower by a little.

:werd:

that way you can distribute the heat easily and melt what needs to be melted. You can get a heat-gun at any craft store.
