They were wrong; Polk DB650 do fit 6th gen civic
Ok, this is info for everyone interested in Polk DB650 (6.5" speakers) for their 6th gen civic. And I think this belongs here in this forum because it's specific to the 6th gen.
Even though EVERYBODY says they DON'T fit (crutchfield, ebay fit check, Circuit City, you name then, etc) the Polk DB650 **DO** fit my 1997 civic sedan in the front door position WITHOUT any modifications whatsoever. No cutting of the door plastic panel, no worries about hitting the rolled down window. None.
I just popped the speaker covers, enscrewed the old speakers, plugged the DB650's in, screwed up onto the OEM location, and popped the covers back on. No problems. No cutting. Works just fine.
I dunno what came over me to go buy they speakers and try it myself even though every other place said they wouldn't fit, but I did. I like the organic balance of the silk dome tweeters (I hate the over-crisp sharp highs of all those metallic tweeters), and the warmer mids.
