Default =help= A/f Gauge =help=

Ok, i got my Autometer A/F gauge in today, since it was used, i was in a hurry to install it. There are 3 wires commin out the back: RED, BLACK, GREEN. I read tutorials on everything you would want to know about how to install and how they work. So my problems:

Currently it is hooked directly to my battery negative and positive. The O2 wire is wedged in the clip on the GREEN wire. (My o2 sensor has white, green, and 2 black.) Im pretty sure this simple hookup should work.

When i hit the brake with the car off, the first light on the left lights (like it power spikes) for a sec.

when the car is started, durring starter turnover the lights bounce from lean to rich and back then go off. While the car is idleing they stay off and slowly I get a few lights lighting on the rich side.(Mind you the turbo is not on yet).

I was told the gauge only lights 1 light at a time. This is lighting about 4 on the lean(left) side but very dim. As I drive it stays about 4 or 5 lights dim on the lean side. When on WOT nothing changes which I beleive should go to rich normally.

My questions:

Do I need a seperate/wideband o2 sensor as well? Can I just run it off the signal wire from my stock 02 sensor? Could the "power spiking" be caused because I have it hooked directly to my battery?

The A/F gauge bounces back and forth all the time; it's made that way. It's where it peaks on the bounce that you 'guess' your reading is. It will not usually spike when you do not have your foot on the pedal or you are getting on it. At a cruising speed the ECU is constantly making adjustments to fuel and that is why you get the bouncing effect on the A/F gauge.

it only bounces during starting (starter is engauged but not yet started). Once car is running, it doesnt bounce. Just has 4-5 lights very dim on the lean side. All those lights are dim and flickering like a loose wire. I double checked connections. I think it might be a bad gauge.
