it was $8 total for 2 qts....the manual says somewhere only to use oil in case of dire need, and to replace asap w/ honda MTF....its worth $8...noticible difference if you haven't changed...

Gear oil is typically 90w. You can get it in 40w, but I strongly reccommend against using 30w motor oil. 40w is fine because it's about the same viscosity as Honda MTF. That's what's been in my tranny for 15,000 miles without any issues (40w motor oil, that is).

All Honda MTF is 10w-30. I use to work for Honda and i know that for a fact. So any 10W-30 would be fine. I use valvoline synblend in all of my trans and motors and all customers motor that i build. It's pretty good stuff.

I was told by the dealer that you need 2-3/4 for the tranny. Also for those who don't know if you are driving on the highway and you 5th gear keeps poping out that is a sign that you are low on oil for the tranny. I know no one asked but I figured I would add that for those who don't know.

k.

Alldata says 40w motor oil. I was assuming that Honda MTF would therefore be, 40w. I'm running 40w.

5w30 for the engine....10w-40 for the tranny, worked for years, then i couldnt shift at the track without grinding, so i went back to honda mtf, and never had another problem. Honda mtf all the way. All my friends switched back too.

Wanna try something fun? Put synthetic in there!

Too slippery. Synchros need a little friction in order to work.
