Default Oil pan replacement

ok, so i dropped off my car this morning to have the oil pan replaced. they called me a little while ago and estimated it to cost $450!!!! is this right??? i know the parts (through auto zone) are about 80 for the pan and gasket. the guy said they had to order the part as well.

i have a sneaking suspicion im getting screwed. should i take it somewhere else? or is it costing more cause they have to order the part and thier labor rates are just really high?

p.s. i would have done it myself...but i know i would have messing it up.

holy shit, don't pay that price! this job is EXTREAMLY easy!

do it your self,

1. Drain oil
2. un-bolt oil pan (little 10mm bolts & nuts around the edge)
3. set gasket on the new one & bolt it up!
4. put oil back in car (or change oil while u have it out anyways)

hope this helps ya out bud

You need to remove the header and any/all engine stiffeners.

Engine stiffners???

You mean exhaust pipe stiffners?

Anyway, check out this link.

I still haven't done the job yet. The winter has been lasting longer than usual and i hate doing non-essential work in the cold when it can wait for warmer weather. Seems like you could do it yourself. Even then $450 is way too much!!

Hope this helps.

No way it should cost that much. They must think their labor is worth a lot cuz I've seen oil pans for 80 bux or less, and it sounds like the install should only take an hour, 2 tops.

Too bad. That's money you could have used for other things for your car. Why would you willingly take your car to have it fixed there and later report them to BBB? BBB will probably ask you that.

Take to Honda next time.
