And so the answer is still, no one knows if the strut/shock tower bar helps the EK or not.

The short answer is, sure it helps chassis stiffness, because it's "closing the box" of the engine compartment and linking the largest area of load in the suspension. Is it a huge difference? Probably not, and probably not something you're going to feel in day to day driving.
