You could do that. That's the ghetto way of getting a short shifter. You won't hurt anything, but it'll just be farther to reach and slightly short shift travel.

I have an APC dual bend short shifter (painted flat black) and a black Type R replica shift knob I'll ship to you (in Sac) for $15 paypal (shipped).

the pivot point would remain the same. a short throw moves the pivot and changes the leverage and throw. spend 25 on an ebay one and 15 on some bushings if cost is an issue.

edit: buy the one listed a post above mine instead, and then get Neuspeed Bushings.

For serious driving, get Skunk2 or B&M or quality and the like. For just daily driving, you can save a lot of money buying the cheap stuff. You pay for what you get, but that doesn't mean cheap stuff doesn't have its place.

post pics of this short shifters. I have to reach down there to shift I couldn't imagine even a shorter one if anything i prefer 2-4 inches longer with a curve bend so I can shift better. That console is all the way down there unlike other cars that is right there were your arm is laying

Skunk2 is one of them. I think DC Sports and Neuspeed also have some.
I have to reach as it is to put mine in 5th, I don't want something so short that it's troublesome to get it into gear.

I havent heard any real negatives with shortshifts.. except for the uber cheap ones breaking in half on a shift... and that was more of a wives tale

i broke a DC short shifter...well the knob part atleast like where the knob screws in to the shifter. no wives tale here.... lol

im using the Skunk2 double bend shifter also. i likes it. *though im leaning towards putting the stock back on. i think im a bad driver at the track sometimes when i get on it i grind *
