My friend has a turbo LS and wants to paint his Intercooler flat black. What kind of paint will he have to use?

 

regular or radiator paint
just spray at angles and a light coat

 

A light coat of normal flat black will work fine.

 

I did that with an ordinary can of spray paint. Looks so stealth so no one thinks I have a turbo until they hear the BOV. I have noticed a bit of "chipping" of the paint from road debris, so maybe do two coats and then seal it.

Yes, but a single light coat won't make a difference.

 

I would suggest just getting the FMIC anondized, most effective & less likely to 'chip'.

 

I second anodizing.

 

I third. Painting will act as an insulator which will, in turn, keep the heat in and not allow it to dissipate as well. I do not recommend painting any type of coolant device such as a FMIC.

 

It's possible to annodize it yourself. There are how-to's posted somewhere on tha intarweb that I have read. I no longer have the links. It would be a cheap mr. wizard-style DIY project.

Painting an IC is teh duh.
