Default D16 valve cover

Last night I tried to remove my valve cover but the bolts are kinda wierd.
They seem to have a threaded and non-threaded part.

So I unscrewed the bolts, then they just went up and down, but wouldnt come out.
Is there some sort of technique that needs to be applied to these?

This was late last night and I didnt spend much time messing with it.

Thanks,
Alex

they don't come all the way out. once they are completely loose, just pry your valve cover up. but be sure you have a new gasket, the old one prolly won't seal back very good.

New gasket to keep oil out of the engine bay?

Thats really wierd, I didnt pull too hard, but it seemed like there was a little blocker on the thread that kept each bolt from coming out.

Y8's come all the way out but its the dried rubber grommets that kinda fuse to the cover that you need to tug to get them off.

perfect explaination!

i've done this many times & the rubber gromets definatly dry out & get stuck to the valve cover & hold the lil bolts!

may as well powder coat that thing while it's off!:rick:
