MINI ME HELP-- z6 or y8???
Im a noob when it comes to engine swaps but ive been researching lately.. my heart is set on a boosted mini me swap. My friend and I are planning on doing the same set up(mini me) i have a D15B7 block and he has D16Y7 block. We are planning on getting head and block work done. But my main question is which head would be more beneficial since we have two options-- the z6 and the y8 swap. Any other information is appreciated-- esp. from those experienced mini-me'ers/swappers.

I have helped somone do this, he put a Z6 head on a Y8 block. But I have no experience with D15B7 block. Do a search, there is alot of info on the mini me swap. Good luck. Holla for the boosted D'z

What gains or noticeable changes did your friend get from this swap. Why mixmatch the z6 and y8 block.. what engine did he start off with? Did you run into any tough points with the install and how long did the swap take?

The biggest issue is compression... if you want to boost, do the Z6 head, no matter what, as it will give you lower compression, which is ultimately safer for a boosted car.
neither head swap will be good for the b7 if you plan on boosting. unless u get a thicker head gasket. say .05" and thicker.
b7/z6=10.1
b7/y8=10.5
y7/z6=9.6
y7/y8=9.9
^all using an oem headgasket

people have been telling me to use a y8 head gasket.. but i have read that it gives you a higher compression. Will that affect my boost plans in the future by using y8 head gasket?
