Jdm D16a Sohc Vtec

i'm looking for spec information on the JDM D16A SOHC VTEC engine.
HP, Torque, blah blah blah.I've looked on the this new thing called the "internet" and all the hits i get are in japanese.

thanks

Kai 12-06-2004 09:00 PM

There is no SOHC VTEC D16A availible or imported to North America. You're thinking of the D16Z6/Y8 and SOHC VTEC ZC family. They all hover in the 125-130hp range.

strngwys 12-07-2004 06:26 AM

i'm looking at one right now!

jdmSiR95 12-07-2004 07:45 AM

I havent heard of 1.6vtec sohc from jdm........ YET

However a 1.6sohc vtec engine does come in edm and its 126bhp

strngwys 12-07-2004 09:07 AM

aha! it's euro trash!

thanks guys!

strngwys 12-07-2004 02:14 PM

Ok I did some more research and I found sites that sell the d16A SOHC VTEC Engine. Plus I have one in my Del sol. ( I just dropped it in this weekend) What I need are specs. ANY SPECS. The guy told me it's a rare engine. I know it's from japan and thats about it.

thanks

was the D16 JDM? i cant recall if they are...i know they have the D15 vtecs...

Kai 12-08-2004 01:24 AM

I would be willing to bet a lot of money that if you ordered one one those "1.6 D16A VTEC" engines that it would either be a ZC or some bullshit USDM/JDM hybrid.

shady@teamproto 12-08-2004 08:37 AM

there actaully is a D16 SOHC, but like Kai says it is a hybrid USDM/JDM engine, or the more commonly known as the ZC. D16A6
Engine: Stock HP: Stock Torque:
D16A6 95.9 91.6"
D16Z6 105.9 99.9"

Brad 12-08-2004 09:36 AM

uhm..

d16a6 is a stock crx/civic si engine
there is a sohc zc but it is non vtec. its very similar to the d16a6.
there is also a d15b, which is sohc vtec.
and then of course the d16z6/y8 which is sohc vtec.

never seen a d16a vtec, unless its a mini-me, which in my opinion is a complete waste of time anyway.

asiandoood 12-08-2004 10:18 AM

probably a mini me.

stock CRX/Si D16A's were not VTEC, the D16A 87-89 Integra was DOHC non-VTEC

strngwys 12-08-2004 10:45 AM

i'll take pictures later to show you guys the engine

sorry about the delay, I had to take pics in my dark carport because the damn lite is out. hopefully you can see the D16 on the block.

Brad 12-09-2004 10:29 PM

im gonna go with a mini-me. looks like a d15b valve cover to me. the z6s were silver.

werd

if it isnt a mini conversion...the only thing i can think of is it being the second to lowest trim JDM DC Integra ZXi with the 1.6 SOHC VTEC. I highly doubt it since it most likely uses the D16Z or ZC. Those came with silver uncoated valvecovers similar to our D16Z's. The EG did come with a D16A engine in the lower models in different parts of Asia..but again, the intake manifold is shorter and the valvecover is silver.

looks more like an EF generation D16A block with a EG D15B head/valve cover and a (what looks like) an EG DX intake manifold.

strngwys 12-10-2004 07:04 AM

the intake is from a d16z6

shady@teamproto 12-10-2004 10:26 AM

in mexico there is an engine just like that it comes in the 99-00 civic EX-R 1.6l, SOHC VTEC with powdered black engine cover.

shady@teamproto 12-10-2004 10:29 AM

mexico imports its engines straight from japan and are assembled in mexico, thats why there isnt a Honda of usa sticker on them but it does have them saying "honda of japan" plus FYI mexico like japan have the gauge clusters in kilometers, plus have the straight engine assemblys like the japanesse engines. (no emmisions laws)

mistacee 12-10-2004 01:51 PM

So essentially,it is the same as the d16z6?
Nothing special then?

strngwys 12-10-2004 02:04 PM

Dude, I'm mexican! this works out perfectly! My brothers south of the border making my engine.

If its the same as a d16z6 as i was told then thats all i needed to know.

thanks guys! :D

Over here an esi eg came standard with what looks like that engine!!!
this the models we got
1.3dx

1.5 lsi (non vtec)

1.6 esi (sohc vtec) 126bhp

1.6vti (dohc vtec) :D :D

so i think it could be the esi engine im not sure about engine codes though but i know the valve cover was black also

that esi engine you speak of is probably a d16z6/y8, or something very similar.

Its .2 higher in comp. thats it. The d16a is the same as the d16z6 with all the same components and a couple hp more. It wasn't a big hit in Japan as they were more for the B series for the money, so the D16a didn't last long much like the ZC.
