Default Best Brand and Price for D16Z6 Rebuild Kit?

I want to rebuild my D16Z6, I wanted to know if anyone has done this all on there own (besides the machine work) and what there opinion was on brands of rebuild kits for the price...

I have seen some for 500, and some for 800?

What Brand/Company would you recomend?

My plan is to Turbocharge the motor, so I decided to rebuild it befor I do it, and if it gets to expencive to rebuild I will sell the T3 to cover the cost of the rebuild and go to my 2nd resort next august: Vortech Supercharger Kit..

Whats everyones opinion?

Kit... Umm, I have seen rebuild kits for V8's in summit and jegs, and just thought that most were sold as a kit.... I dont see why they wouldnt be sold as a kit, most manufacturers like you to use all of the same parts (there parts)....

And having to search for all the gaskets and replacement parts would be a total pain in the ass, and most companys like to make things easyer for us to buy so we buy it instead of spending time searching around..

What does idk stand for?

idk = I don't know

I haven't seen 'rebuild kits' for our motors. You really will just be looking for rods, rod bearings, main bearings, thrust washers, pistons (which come with wrist pins), rings (which will usually come with the pistons), someone to hone and/or bore your cylinders, new head gasket, and new seals/gaskets. Summit sells a 'conversion kit' (as they call it) which is all of the seals/gaskets for the bottom end. I don't know if they make it for the Z6 though. Honda will likely have something like that. I know Honda has full head seal/gasket kits that come with the head gasket. The one for the B18C1 is over $200.

I pieced all my rebuild stuff together.

ok... So I will have to shop around.... Ill check Ebay and see if somone has put together a kit on there... Is that a good idea? OR would you trust buying gaskets on there? I know I always get my gaskets from Summit or the local parts store....

I personally wouldn't buy anything that's going INTO my motor from Ebay. It's easy to change out a crappy intake and it doesn't work well then it's not really a big thing. It's a whole different story when a wrist pin or main bearing fails. :eek3:

Good, I didnt want to get anything from there anyways.... How much do you think the rebuild would cost me? Has anyone done this to a D16?

I was thinking a price for parts would be around 600 ? That sound right? And what machine work would I need to be done? I can P&P the head myself, but the valves would have to be done by a pro, also, isnt honing the walls of the cylender easy? I seen somone do it to a V6 and all they used was a thing on the end of a high speed drill called a glaze breaker...?

What machine work can I do myself? And what MAchine work do I need a shop to do?

I want to know so I can call the local shops and start pricing things...

$600

Oh.. sorry. You will spend that much on pistons & rods. h: My rods were almost twice that. :happysad:

You would do fine with a set of eagle rods and a good set of pistons like CP, Arias, JE, etc.

It all depends on what all you want to do.
