Default should i get my car checked?

i have a 97 civic, and i noticed that a yellow "check engine" light on the dash board. does anyone know what this mean? the light has been on for several months now but i haven't had any problems yet.

holly $hit man, it could be a serious problem now... since u didn't get ur car checked for months, ur engine could of been suffering... the only way to tell what's wrong with it is to take it to a mechanic and hook some kind of diagnostic computer to your car, and then they'll tell u what the problem is... let's hope it's not a big one

take it to autozone, theyll check it for free.

yhea i did that to my cousins 88 civic hatchback and blew the engine. he told me it was the o2 sensor that was screwed up. it wasn't definitely get it checked.

Well you may want to try resetting the computer first by disconnecting the battery for 30 mins or so. Then see if the light come back on after that. Autozone will check the code for free, but try reseting the ecu first.

this light is yellow??? Does it actually have a picture of an engine on it?? If its yellow I am thinking it could be your maintenece reminder and there is a recessed button right next to it to reset it. If it is the picture of the engine that is lit up get it to some kind of shop to see what code has triggered the light.

maintnabce reminde gives you a red signal by the odometer (green is the o.k.) but its not yellow and its not a light!
GET IT CHECKED!!
like they said autozone does it for free
and if somebody is going to charge you itll be definately less than what your engine cost!
