Default door lock problem

ok , here is a basic description , if anyone has any hints or has faced this before please point me in the right direction.

i have a 94 2 door , the drivers door lock swith(the metalic -like the window switch - one not the actual lock ) opens both the locks but only closes the passenger's lock .
the passenger's switch does the same .

the driver's door lock ( the lock switch itself - brown plastic moves from side to side) opens both the locks AND closes them - so this works OK ( although if the drivers door is open i have to have the handle opened todo this.

the drivers key - opens both locks .

what i need to know is - WTF is the problem with the metalic switch - why does it unlock both doors but ONLY LOCK the PASSENGER DOOR ??

thanks in advance for any help .

It could be a multitude of things. You may have to do some troubleshooting to figure it out. First make sure all wires are connected to the metallic switch, if they are, you may have a bad switch. My dad had a Ranger that had a problem where the driver's side switch would lock/unlock both doors, but the passanger side switch would only lock the passanger side door, it wouldn't unlock. He replaced the passanger side switch and it fixed the problem.
It's hard to figure out how to fix your's as I don't know what has been changed to accomidate the new switch.
You may need a multi-meter and some basic circuitry skills to troubleshoot it. Otherwise your only other option is to repair it back to stock and eliminate all other variables with the metallic switch.
