Idle question
hey,
i just started noticing this a few weeks ago. every morning when i go to start up my car, it idles at like 1500-1700 rpm, with my foot on the clutch. this usually happens when i do not drive for several hours, ie: night, and school. well... after that happens, i drive it a little, and when i stop at a light, i have the clutch in, and it looks like its idling at like 300- 500 rpm. it seems really low. is that normal? i have installed a apexi n1 exhuast and a aem cai. if anything im guessing its cause of the intake. any have any suggestions? also, how do i reset my ecu? thanks

Ok when your car is cold it is supposed to Idle a little higher. This is the engines way of warming itself up. If it is idling a 3-500 rpms at a light or after the car is warm either the throttle cable needs to be adjusted or the idle control valve needs to be adjusted. In order to reset the ecu all you have to do is to remove the terminals from the battery for a few minutes
To adjust the throttle cable you loosen the two nuts on the throttle cable (not the ones that connect to the intake manifold but actually on the cable itself) They will be straddling the bracket. Move them to one side or another and then tighten the cable back down. In your case the cable will need to be moved towards the drivers side of the car to decrease the travel of the wire. If the Rpms were too high at idle after the engine came to temp you would go the other way. Watch out adjusting the idle control valve becaus you can overtighten or pop out the screw very easily which will lead to erradic idles. The ICV is the screw on the passenger side of the throttle body. It is recessed in the throttle body and should only be adjusted while the engine is running. Just tighten or loosen it with a flathead screwdriver
What did you adjust? Cable , valve or both? Did you use the proper proceedure for the valve? It's in the Haynes manual, but I can't remember exactly, it has something to do with warming up the motor, unplugging the valve, adjusting it, then removing the backup fuse (same as disconnecting the battery?) , plugging it back in and then restarting.
