Not enough power :(
I have been workin on my 93 del sol SI and done the following mods:
CAI
4-2-1 Header
2.5" Piping to exhaust
Highflow Cat
10mm sparkplug wires
MSD Controller, cap and coil
Hyperground System
Run 93 octane
And its fast and all, but still not quite fast enough to hold me over till I can afford a dohc swap.
What else can I do to get the most outta my d16z6 sohc vtec engine?
Bigger injectors? I dont want to put NOS or turbo this engine. I will save my money on a turbo for now since it seems that it will not fit a dohc if i get a sohc turbo.
I finally realized that my car was not up to par when I finally recently raced someone. They were driving an Acura that looked kinda newwer but since it was a good deal bigger than my sol I think I shoulda taken him no prob since as far as I could tell it was stock. What engine do acura's generally have? the acura looked kinda like this: http://www.milemate.com/pictures/acura%20rl%202002.jpg but it was a 2 door. when we (kinda) raced (after turning from a light) he came up from behind me quite quick so I floored it (i could tell he wanted to race) and beiing in second gear at around 3k rpm i thought i would take off pretty good. around 6k rpm where my car pulled the hardest he was slowly pulling on me. But as we came up on traffic we quickly gave up the "race" But im pretty sure in a normal race he woulda won. This has been the only car I have raced so far (not much of a race I know) but it gave me an idea if I could compete a little. So now im not happy with my mods and need to keep modding so I need advice from the pros. (leave SA comments out please)
I know this story sounds stupid cuz i coulda lost to a "stock" car but it was only a half-assed race but from this I determined that I woulda lost. So I need more ideas on hp gains.

the del sol small size can be a little decieving when it come to its weight. it weighs just as much as a regular civic. so you have no weight advantage with a del sol like you would with a crx. and just save your money for a swap, no use in getting stuff you can't put on the new motor when you do get it. nothing you can do to add more hp, short of nitrous or FI
Let me just start with this statement that you desperatly need to hear. Street racing is stupid, pull your head out of your ass and relize that shit will only get you or someone else killed. That being said, your not gonna get to much out of the D series with out going turbo. If you truly want to apreciate your car as it is now i would do suspension upgrades. You do more turning in daily driving then you do pedal to metal throttle...er...well maybe not considering your story but anyways youll apreciate the feel having a nice suspension offers.
if I were you, since you said you are going to a B series, upgrade your suspension, and make the car lighter, since you will be installing a larger engine, it doesent weigh much more, but you can cut some body fat from del sols, I helped a friend make his as light as possible, he was puting a H22 under his hood, so he also had to beef up the front suspension..
This is what we did to his:
Upgraded to Poly bushings, upgrade steering components to aircraft aluminum, carbon fiber hood( or fiberglass), fiberglass front Z fenders, 15" racing wheels (with good tires), Invest in some good performance shocks and Teins.
He also got larger front rotors/calipers, and larger rear rotors and calipers.

I know where you are commin from and to some degree i agree. I dont want to make my car super fast just for street racing, in fact I dont plan to really do any street races. I want a fast car for ME not so I can show everyone that a 4banger can whoop a v8. The reason I did (kinda) race that acura was only to gauge how fast it was. It wasnt a real race but I knew he would go full throtle as he came around me so it was a good chance for me to get some comparison. Since a stock lookin car could probably beat me I know that I want faster. Its kinda hard to explain why I want power or what it is exactly that I am trying to say. Imagine a 10yr old on a go-kart doing 25 to him that may be super fast. then he gets in his parents car and does 90. Thats kinda what I mean. The mods i did to my del sol seem very fast to me, but since a acura could pretty much beat me that easily I know I want more now. Does that make any sense?
