Fuel gauge problems
Just picked up a 1995 civic ex si. Sweet car, lots of goodies but fuel gauge stays on full all the time. Even with the key off. Any ideas or suggestions? I checked wiring to sending unit and verified that it wasnt stuck. I unplugged the sending unit, still no change. I dont have a manual yet
so I havent been able to perform any electrical testing. Just figured I'd see if anyone had any ideas.

sticking on F all the time means it's seeing a ground signal, or less than .5 volts.
unplugging the sending unit at the tank should make the gauge go to full E. If it does replace the sending unit, if it doesn't check for a short to ground in the wiring or a bad gauge.

yeah, I unplugged the sender. it doesnt change the gauge. I verified 12 volts at the sender and the sender is working. Maybe the gauge or short?? are there any problem areas for wiring on these cars?
there isn't really any touuble areas in an EG with this. Must be something as a result of an accident or tinkering by someone else.
if you have a volt meter pull out the cluster and read what voltage is on the yellow/white wire with everything still connected. It should be between 0.5-4.5 volts.

wow, thats real useful.
Like everyone said, it could be a short anywhere... also have you tried swapping clusters? Out of curiosity.
