Help! Problem with 1995 Civic DX.
My fiances 95 Civic has been giving us problems lately. It is detonating and also consuming approx. 1 litre per 2000km. I know that the oil burning problem is likely valve seals or rings. It has approx. 120000 miles. I did a compression test and the results seem to be fine. Do these cars have problems with valve seals at this mileage? I am really concerned about the detonating. I checked the timing and it is set perfect. Does anyone know where the egr valve is located? Could it be detonating because of a dirty fuel filter?
TIA,
Steve

Do a leak down and post the tesults of each cylender that will tell you if its valve seals or rings, also is it leaking any water, and whats the exhaust look like? And when you take the spark plugs out for the leak down, replace them with NGK and see if it helps anything. If it is a valve seal, dont drive the car untill you fix it, or you will burn up the valve seat, and then you need to take it to a machine shop (been there done that)...
what were your compression ratings? if your compression was in spec I would suggest a leak down test, let us know where you hear air leaking from so we could better assist you, my guess would be bad rings. there is no egr valve on any b or d series motor.
I don't recall the compression test numbers exactly, but I recall them all being within 5psi. I might need to do another test as well as a leakdown test. I pulled the plugs tonight and they were all white (lean). Could this be caused by a dirty fuel filter? I looked through the records and I don't see a receipt for one since we purchased the car (about 60,000miles ago).

I did a leak down test last week.

How are the numbers for a 120,000miles? I also started running premium fuel and ran some combustion chamber package from BG products. It seems to be much better with almost no hint of ping.
