Default Help!! Speedometer is not working

There seems to be a problem with my car. I drive a 97 civic dx with a 96 gsr motor in it. It was working fine until recently that my speedometer went dead on me no matter what speed im at. I took it in to a shop and the guy told me that my car wasn't receiving any signals from my vehicle speed sensor. So i bought a new one and replaced it but notting happend. I'm not sure what could be the problem. If anyone has an idea please let me know.

thanks

if you bought a new VSS and that didnt work then it could either be a bad cluster or a short in the wires,..see if you could borrow a cluster from any 96-00 civic and plug it up and see if thats the problem,..if not then check to see if you have a short somewhere along the wires,...are you throwing a code for the VSS?

Well if you're Vtec still works then it's not your speed sensor. Probably a short or something in the wires. Get a new cluster.

The harness that im using is a 97 dx harness. The guy who did my wiring rigged it for me so im not quite sure what goes where. The sorry thing is that the guy who did my wiring is up in wi and im down in fl. Also the ecu im using is a p72 obd2. I checked my cel and the codes that it was throwing to me was my crank sensor and a o2 sensor, but notthing about my vss. This is really stressing me out. hahaha

at the VSS there should be three wires.
blk should be ground
Blk/yel should have 12volts on it with the key in run.
blu/wht is the signal that runs to the cluster and the ECU.

the signal runs from there to the 20pin brown connector under the blower fan under the dash. there are three wires in that connector that are connected together for other things. my guess would be that your problem is between there and the VSS itself.

**edit, check the ground at the thermostat housing. the O2 gets it's ground from there. might fix two problems at once.
